| Get Ready for the Support at Home Program: Enhanced Access to Exercise PhysiologyFrom 1 July 2025, the way in-home aged care is funded in Australia is changing. The current Home Care Package Program and the Short-Term Restorative Care Programme will be replaced by the new Support at Home Program. This new program is designed to be simpler and provide more equitable access to care and support. Great News for Accessing Exercise Physiology: Under the new Support at Home Program, clinical support services, including exercise physiology, are intended to be fully funded by the Australian Government. This means that if exercise physiology is part of your Support at Home care plan, you will generally not have to pay an income-tested care contribution towards these specific services. This makes it easier to access the clinical exercise support you need to stay healthy and independent. The new program will also feature a Restorative Care Pathway, which will have a strong focus on allied health services like exercise physiology to help you improve your function and capacity. If you are an existing Home Care Package recipient, you will automatically transition to the new Support at Home Program from 1 July 2025. Your funding level will be equivalent to your current package level, and you won't need a new assessment unless your needs change. The new arrangements for fully funding clinical services will apply to you. |

What can I expect from an HCP-funded Exercise Physiology program? | A qualified Exercise Physiologist will assess your needs, fitness level, and any health conditions you have. They will then design a safe and effective exercise program specifically tailored to your goals within the framework of your HCP. This program may include exercises to improve strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health, ultimately helping you maintain independence and well-being. |
Will the program be tailored to my specific needs and conditions? | Absolutely! Since your HCP program is designed to address your individual needs, the Exercise Physiologist will create a personalised exercise plan considering your limitations and health conditions. |
Can Exercise Physiology help me improve my specific concern, e.g., balance, strength, walking? | Exercise Physiology programs funded through HCP can address a wide range of concerns that align with your HCP goals. This may include improving balance, strength, walking ability, managing chronic conditions, and overall well-being. Be sure to discuss your specific goals with the Exercise Physiologist during the consultation. |
How often will I need to see the Exercise Physiologist? | The frequency of sessions will depend on your individual needs and program as outlined in your HCP. Typically, you might start with one session per week, progressing to two or more sessions per week as your tolerance and abilities improve. Your Exercise Physiologist will work with you to determine the optimal frequency of sessions to maximise your progress and ensure the program remains safe and effective. |
Can the sessions be conducted at home? | Yes, here at REPS Movement we offer mobile exercise physiology services funded through HCP. This means we can design exercise programs that you can perform safely in the comfort of your own home. Alternatively, we can also meet you at a local recreation centre or hydrotherapy pool, depending on your preferences and what equipment is most suitable for your program. |
